The Main Ridge Men’s Shed at 366 Main Creek Road, Main Ridge opened in July 2015 and spent most of its first year getting established in a building that was the former Main Ridge Fire Station. Considerable support was forthcoming from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Red Hill Lions Club, Flinders Lions Club, Dromana Rotary Club, and Main Ridge CFA with very generous financial support from the Rye and Dromana Community (Bendigo) Bank and Hillview Quarries and in-kind support from local electricians, plumbers and other tradesmen.
As soon as it had the equipment and capacity it started to accept requests from community organisations to undertake community projects and to reach out to the community in other ways.
The enlightened Committee of the Main Ridge Shed has encouraged the participation of women and it has 18 women members in addition to its 43 male members. Men attend on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, women have their own session on a Tuesday afternoon and are aided by a roster of men who attend the Shed to provide guidance on wood-working techniques.
